Caitlin was SICK this week. Before I went out of town she had a bit of a cough and snotty nose, but nothing too bad. When I came back...she sounded like she'd been smoking. She had this nasty, hacking smokers cough that sort of sounded like a bark. Tuesday morning I took her to the pediatrician just to be sure it wasn't something major. He diagnosed her to broncholitis. And said there wasn't much we could do for it.
Wednesday, I loaded both kids up & took them to daycare. 2 hours later I got a call to come get Caitlin because she was running fever. That happened to be the exact time I was walking out the door to meet a client for lunch. Thankfully, Aunt Sassy & her BFF saved the day and watched a poor, sick baby during their lunch break while I met my client.
Caitlin spent Thursday with Nana while I went back to work. It was a rough few days for all of us. She wanted nothing more than to be held, didn't eat much, and sounded so pitiful when she cried. She finally felt better Friday and I sent her back to school, just in time for picture day.
Since she felt so crappy and the week was chaos, I didn't snap her photo until Friday. Doesn't this look like a sick girl?
Cooper tried to make her smile, but didn't have much luck.
I asked Cooper to take a nice picture with his sister. That afternoon, I asked him how the pictures went and if he took a nice one. He quickly told me that he did. When I asked if he took one with his sister, he said "yeah, but she cried."
Well, at least I know not to expect stellar school photos.

Phone Friday
I've fallen way behind on this. Mostly I haven't taken too many photos, but also I have just been busy.
We finished off October by visiting the Pumpkin Patch and carving some pumpkins for the house.
I made cookies to send to school for Cooper's classmates. A few may have been left at home for our consumption.

After weeks of waiting, we finally were able to trick or treat for Halloween.
One Saturday, we found this Spiderman mask tossed in the middle of the clearance Halloween stuff. The costume was missing, but Cooper wanted the mask. Thankfully the manager was nice enough to sell it to us for $1.
We took family photos and rewarded Cooper with a train ride in the park.

Last weekend, Jason had to make a last minute trip out of town. Cooper & I met Rachel for dinner at Freebirds.
Sunday, Cooper & I met up with some of our friends for the Color Run. Or Walk. When you're pushing a 40lb toddler, it is definitely a walk. At first Cooper did not want to participate. He wasn't thrilled with getting paint on his clothes & didn't really know what to expect.
After we started to get dirty, he had more fun. The kids really enjoyed throwing color on each other at the end and Cooper wanted to get more paint on him again.

Cooper got "scary teeth" in his Halloween bucket from school. They apparently had a pinata. At least that's what I gathered from Cooper's story. It went something like this. "There was a bat and we had a stick and we went BAM BAM BAM and all the candy dumped on the ground and we had to run and pick it up really fast."

It finally got cold enough for a jacket! It also warmed up quite quickly each day and Cooper refused to take his jacket off.

He also got a lollipop.

Monday morning started off with a bang. Cooper & I were sitting in bed and he started to cough, then proceeded to 'get sick' all over my bed. I spent Monday morning cleaning up vomit (which is awesome on a regular day, but goes to a whole new level when you're pregnant) and Cooper watched a lot of Disney.
I have a whole new love for my washer and dryer, as well as Clorox wipes. Thankfully he was the only victim and was up & running the next morning.

Phone Friday 8/24
Last Friday we headed to my mom's house for the weekend. As we drove in, we spotted a mom & baby deer crossing the driveway.
Cooper gave us the Spiderman web shot in his new jammies.
I made Oreo cupcakes for my mom's birthday.
I picked up some Toy Story pajamas after exchanging some shorts that were way to big for Cooper. He was extremely excited!
We'd left Cooper with my mom Sunday, only to have to go get him Monday due to fever. I took him to the pediatrician and found out that he had Strep. We finally convinced him that yogurt would be good on his throat.
We took Eileen her birthday present and came home with a Dora goodie bag. Cooper found the Dora sunglasses and insisted on wearing them.

Phone Friday 7/13
Last Friday we made a quick run to check out a new park. They have a small stocked pond for fishing, a little splash pad & and playground. The guys went to try their hand at fishing while Cooper & checked out the playground.
Cooper did a little fishing.
Saturday we finally finished hanging the photos in Cooper's room. He tried on the old catchers mask.
Thursday I picked Cooper up from school to find him in a large t-shirt. He looks 5.
Jason had a long day at work, so we picked up a small piece of cake at the grocery store.
Friday morning Cooper woke up with a really red eye. I didn't even bother with school and went straight to the Redi Clinic. We finally saw the doctor and went home with a prescription for eye drops. Friday was our 10th or so day straight of rain and we were getting a little stir crazy. I finally grabbed Cooper's rain boots and we headed out to look for puddles to splash in.
Cooper looked like we punched him, but it was just a raging case of pink eye.

44 Weeks Old
Cooper is sick. :-( Wednesday he was doing well, but we spent our evening snapping some Halloween photos (be on the lookout for those) and skipped this weekly pic.
Thursday morning when Jason got him up, he noticed Cooper had been hoarding food. Ok, maybe not. He'd tossed his cookies (or dinner) overnight. We're awesome and didn't hear it, but lately he's been coughing up quite a bit of mucus (gross, I know) and it comes out like a burp. I gave him a Wal-Mart bath before school and sent him on his way. Then I got a call from daycare that he'd done the same thing after lunch. So off we went to the pedi to check him out.
Proud parent moment of the day: when the pedi takes a look in the ear and replies "oh, its bad." Fortunately it was only one ear, so we were given an antibiotic to clear it up.
Today, though, I got the first call around 9am that he'd ran through the first outfit of the day. By 3pm, he'd messed up the 2 extra pieces I sent and I picked up the little vagabond in a plain white onesie. I had to giggle a bit when we stopped a Kroger with my WT kid in the plain white onesie and no pants. I just prayed that I wouldn't channel my friend Harmony and her trip to the Memorial City Target. I shop at that Kroger weekly...I can't get banned.
We made it out safe and sound and Cooper has been clean all afternoon. He's just not eating well and not drinking much. We're trying Pedialyte and the BRAT diet and hoping things clear up quickly. On another note, I'm not sure why apples are included int he BRAT diet. That one confuses me...
Despite not feeling well, he sure was cute Thursday night. And seems to be warming up to his pony a bit.

My ears are burning
See this face?
This is the face of a kiddo who doesn't feel well. Let's see, last week Coop just wasn't sleeping well. He was up an hour or so after we put him down. Then Friday the snotty nose and cough we had a few months ago came back. And then toward the end of the week we noticed that Cooper was a little...stopped up. We cut out the bananas and switched to apples to help things move along, but by Saturday the kid was just not happy. I mean, really, I get it. He squirmed, and wiggled, and fussed, and cried. Finally I ran to Kroger, grabbed some prunes, and gave it a whirl. Sunday morning things were moving in the right direction.
Until we hit another road block. For some reason he's decided to boycott naps on the weekend. The little fart naps religiously from 12-2ish every.stinking.day at daycare. Get him home on the weekends...and after 1/2 an hour he's up like a little turtle in the crib. Some days I fight it and some days I figure he'll sleep when he's tired. Saturday was more of the same, so Sunday Jason decided to hold him while he napped. I had to get some work done so I didn't care what he did. However, he noticed that after he coughed in his sleep there was a 3-4 second delay before his normal breathing pattern started up again.
We talked and thought about it and finally I called the after-hours clinic. A whopping 5 minutes before closing time. I won't go into it, but there were words thrown around like "ER" and well...that makes for a fun Sunday afternoon. However, I just didn't really feel like that was the right decision. I just got a strange vibe and felt like we'd be wasting hours of our time to find out Cooper had a cold. But really, do you want to take that chance with your kid? No, not really. So we got dressed, packed his diaper bag, grabbed a few books and more than a few toys and went to the local ER.
Where we sat in the parking lot. After much deliberation we called the pedi again to speak to an on-call nurse. We'd decided that we really felt rushed on the first phone call and they were asking me questions that I didn't quite understand and we just wanted a little more information. Come to find out this nurse wasn't quite as worried about the delay in breathing as she was the rattle in his chest. She suggested a few home remedies (have him drink water, steam up the bathroom, etc) and told us to take him in the next day. I felt much better - especially since Cooper was in the best mood he'd been in all weekend.
We did make the mistake of letting him sleep in our bed that night...just to be sure. The only result of that is that none of us slept too well. Monday he was back in his crib.
I left work early to run him to the doctor Monday afternoon really thinking that we'd be sent home with instructions to run the humidifier and use the saline drops. Instead we came home with a prescription for antibiotics and our first ear infection. Son of a biscuit. I'm a believer that once you get one ear infection, you're doomed for more. Please, someone, tell me that's not true. Please.
Coop has been a little fussy in the evening and I can tell he just feels funky. He's pulled on his ears, although it's nothing new. I think he sometimes does it as a way to show he's pissed. He's not had any fever - thankfully. And he still sleeps ok ((holding my breath)). Hopefully this antibiotic will kick his ears butt and we'll be over this before we can blink. I'm just glad he did what he did on Sunday because if not, I probably would have just assumed his teeth hurt and he had a cold and we'd still be sitting here on Wednesday without a visit to the doctor.
That about sums up the last week. Oh, and if you're around my house and hear someone screaming like their limb is being cut off...don't worry. That's just me attacking Cooper with a box of tissues and the snot-sucker. Who would have thought that blue bulb could so closely resemble a Medieval torture device?

Momma, I'm siiiiiiiick
Well, we have our first cold. I finally decided to take Cooper to the pediatrician yesterday after I called the daycare and he still had this rattle-sounding cough and a really runny diaper.
Let me back up. I knew something was off because he was super cranky all weekend. Remember...my sister said he was being bipolar. Then yesterday he woke up with a snotty nose and coughed a few times. It sounded awful! So...rattley. I didn't read too much into it, though, thinking it was probably drainage that he was trying to clear out. But when I called to check on him and he'd done it again...coupled with the diaper, I decided to take him in. Or at least call the nurse. The nurse agreed that I should bring him in fearing an ear infection. Crap...once you start those things they never end!
Of course they were running an hour behind at the doctors office (um, why...it's not like they have to leave to deliver babies!!!) So Coop and I waited it out and finally saw a pediatrician in the office. Not his, but when you go at the last minute you can't be too picky. I explained all of his symptoms and she looked him over from head to toe. And found nothing. Just a cold. She fully expected that little boy to have an ear infection, instead they were perfectly clear. He's got a snotty nose, a lot of drainage and a red throat. So for now, all we can do is wait out the cold.
I'm really glad it's not an infection and we don't have to do an antibiotic, but I left fearing that we'll be back in a few days with a real ear infection. For now, though, we ran the humidifier last night and let him sleep on the wedge to elevate his head a little bit.
Oh, and want to know what the worst sound in the world sounds like? Hearing your kid cry when they don't have a voice! This morning I went after him to suck out the boogers, he cried and it was awful!!! This deep, raspy sound that just broke my heart. I can handle hearing him cry but this...just made me sad. Hopefully I'm wrong and he gets better soon.
