6 Month Check Up

Talk about exhausted. I've never been quite so tired from spending 3 hours sitting. My 6 month appointment was yesterday at 4pm and I finally left at 7pm. No, nothing was wrong. Apparently there had been some emergency earlier and the doctor ran next door to the hospital. So, everyone after about 3:30 was pushed back. Now, when you're the one in the waiting room you can get a little annoyed from a 3 hour wait. However, when you're the patient having an emergency...getting your own doctor and not the on-call guy is a blessing. So I didn't complain because one day it might be me. And I was also happy that I was still in my clothes sitting on a comfy chair - not in a sheet on an uncomfortable exam bed.

So I was the last patient of the day to be seen by Dr. F. I was really worried by the time she got there she'd be really rushed and I'd get flustered and I would forget half of my questions. But she took all the time I required and I felt great leaving. Apparently she was going back to the hospital to deliver 2 more babies!!

As for the appointment, it was pretty informative. Fortunately, since we waited so long Jason was able to join me and ask some questions of his own. She suggested that we pre-register with the hospital and sign up for a birthing class. I'm on the fence about this, but leaning more toward doing it. I'm not sure if I need the whole breathing part (do they even still do this, or is that on TV only?) because I have a feeling I'll forget it all anyway. But what I do like is the idea of knowing what's going to happen and who is doing what. I like to be in control, remember? So, now I just need to find a class that fits in our really busy schedule.

Dr. F also asked about a pediatrician. I mentioned that we want one closer to home an not in the medical center so that's on my list of thing to do in the next month or so. Sounds intimidating.

And that's about it. I'm starting to worry a little about about everything that needs to be done and the fact that we've got something going on almost every weekend between now and my due date. But...it will all get done in the end, right???

What's going on...

It's been a really quiet week. And that's just the way I like it. First, Jason finished grad school last Friday!!!! I'm very proud of him and excited that we can get back to normal. For 4 months before the rest of our lives are turned upside down. :-)

Our baby furniture came in last week!! Jason and Adam went to pick it up Saturday morning and we already have the dresser in the nursery. The crib, however, is still in the box in the garage. We've got to move some furniture around in the house and I'd like to shampoo the carpet (I don't think Jason knows this) before we really get things set up in that room. But I also think we need to set it up sooner rather than later just in case we're missing some parts. So...I could have a crib in my house next week. Scary...

Also, this is how I felt Monday when I woke up:

I went to work because I had a few appointments I couldn't miss, but Tuesday I stayed home to rest thinking that would help. However, since I still felt crappy Wednesday I went to the doctor. It's amazing how well a Z-pack works. I feel a LOT better but not 100%.

This weekend we're having a few friends and family over to celebrate Jason Graduating. I feel kinda bad for him since he won't get to walk until December...but that happens to be a week after my due date. He keeps saying he wouldn't walk anyway, but I feel like this is a big deal.

And...that's about it. Oh, Sunday instead of spending the day working in the yard like we intended (with the help of my sister) we decided to spend the day at Babies R Us doing our registry. I'm sure Lin was happy to skip yard work, plus it was pouring down rain so it wasn't a hard decision to make.

Progress

Ever since finding out that we're having a boy I've spent quite a bit of time looking for baby bedding. First...who knew that crap was so stinking expensive??? I picked out the cutest bedding for a girl and I fell in love with it. There was no way Jason was going to talk me out of it. But for a boy...well, it's like everything boy related. Walk into Kohl's and look at the baby clothes - you'll see 47 racks of girl clothes and 7 boy racks. Bedding is about the same way. It's all girl!! The stuff that you just fall in love with is girl. For boys it's either themed out like crazy (trucks, animals, sports) or borderline girly. We wanted bedding for a little boy...not a baby.

So I spent the last week looking for little boy bedding in non-baby colors. I looked at every baby bedding website out there PLUS every single stitch of fabric on the Etsy website. We really never wanted a theme, but we did find some baseball themed bedding that wasn't over the top - and could be really cool. But we still kept looking. I went to a local store during my lunch break and found some bedding that was almost exactly what we'd been looking for. It was little boy colors! However...it was also $499!!!!! I did find it online substantially less expensive...$350. But still. I had to remind myself that I spent about $100 for the bedding on MY bed. And it's a whole lot bigger. This weekend I took Jason to the baby store to look at both beddings in person. He did like the little boy bedding, but we both agree that it was just expensive - and ridiculous.

So...we decided to go with the baseball themed bedding - Cooperstown by Colcalo. Like I mentioned - it could be really cool. I think it has a bit of a 'vintage' feel to it so we're toying with the idea of adding vintage baseball photos to the room to add a different feel. Now we can start thinking about really decorating the room. Especially since the furniture should be here this month.
