Rodeo Time!

It's rodeo time in Houston!  The trail riders rolled into town last week & the first official rodeo day is tomorrow. Friday was "Go Texan Day" at school and Cooper was very excited to wear his boots & seat belt to school.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I love to bake, but for some reason it rarely happens these days.  I did carve out a little time one Sunday morning to frost cookies to send to school.  I used the technique found here.  I was a little skeptical, but it ended up being pretty easy.  In fact, I managed to frost them all before church AND I was home alone with Cooper.
After dinner, we had more cupcakes and settled down so that Cooper could open his Valentine's.  He came home with some from school, and the mailbox had a few surprises.

My favorite part of the whole holiday, though, was hearing Cooper say "Happy Valentimbe's Day."

Happy Birthday Daddy!!

Cooper loves birthdays.  He knows that birthdays mean one thing - cupcakes.  And he loves cupcakes.  Last week we were on a bit of a sugar high from all of the cupcakes & candy.

First, over the weekend, we went to celebrate Abby's birthday.  It was at a large gymnastics...gym.  Building?  Either way, the place was huge.  And Cooper was clingy so I spent the first half hour pushing him to go play with his friends.  Finally, he did and was having a great time.  Until the group moved from one section toward the table for cupcake time.  The parents were walking along the perimeter and Cooper was sandwiched between Reagan & Eileen.  And then he wasn't.  I swore I heard Kelly say "Eileen, sit next to Cooper."  But she didn't.  It wasn't Cooper there...in fact, he wasn't anywhere.  Jason and I noticed it at the same time, and their group leader was about 15 seconds behind.

We didn't panic.  Instead, my brain started ticking very quickly.  I knew there was a pit that he'd been eying, but I felt confident that he wouldn't have gone back to it without us noticing.  There was a back door standing open, but we looked quickly enough that we would have seen him wondering around the field behind the building.  As much as it felt like a lifetime, the whole thing probably only lasted 3 minutes.  I figured he had gotten mixed up in another group, stealing their cupcakes.  We asked around (ok, maybe I yelled his name) and sure enough...he'd made it all the way down to the other end of the building to another party because they had balloons.  I was just a little frustrated with him, but he really didn't realize what he'd done.  The fault lies with us, I guess.  I've tried very hard not to be a "helicopter mom."  But I guess I need to be a little closer to the helicopter mom line, without crossing it.  Some days I have to remind even myself that even though he looks 3 or 4...he's only 2.

That said, I spent the rest of the day reminding myself that I can't trust a two year old!!!

Monday was Jason's birthday and all Cooper wanted to get him was a cupcake. I found some really nice red velvet cupcakes and Cooper managed to just eat the frosting...and then tried to "share" the cake.

After bath, we let Jason open his gifts.  I took an idea from my friend Kelly and took Cooper to the Dollar Tree to pick out whatever he wanted for Jason.

Cooper picked out a Buzz Lightyear puzzle.  I had a hard time getting him to understand that it was for Daddy & not him!

Who knew?

Last week we were driving around and Cooper started to sing his ABC's.  Apparently he knows how to do that now.  He mixes up a few letters, but we were pretty impressed.  And he's a glutton for attention - every time we cheered him on & clapped, he would sing them again.
