A few weeks ago, the daycare called. Caitlin had been coughing and snotty all weekend, so I figured it was her running fever. Instead, Cooper had fallen on the playground and the director thought he had a broken nose.
My immediate response was "shut up." Then, I asked what I should do. I mean, a broken nose is bad...but it isn't broken arm bad. Because you can't do anything for it. We still ended up going to the ER.
Recently, our local Blockbuster was rebuilt as an Emergency Room. The daycare had called them to see if a broken nose was something they could handle (it was) so we headed over there.
Cooper wasn't quite as upset as I thought he would have been. He was scared of getting in trouble, but I felt that the swollen nose was enough of a punishment.
The wait time was almost non-existent and we were taken back to a pediatric triage room. After seeing the tech, nurse and doctor, Cooper was taken back for X-Rays. I warned the tech that he asks a lot of questions - which he did!
After confirming that nothing was broken, we were sent on our way. We went back by the daycare to get Caitlin & let everyone know he was doing ok.
He stayed home the next day with Aunt Sassy to rest. We all thought he would be pretty sore that day and would need to stay still, but that wasn't the case. He bounced back pretty quickly! Less than a week later, his face looked pretty normal. The swelling wasn't quite so bad, but the coloring was pretty yellow.
I'm still extremely thankful that Cooper's first ER trip wasn't for something major. He never really has given the full story on what happened, but I'm sure that's because he wasn't sliding down the slide the right way. I figure that lesson learned lasted a few days...maybe the week.

Funny Things
Here are few funny things from Cooper recently.
I bought a small watermelon and cut it up for Cooper and I to share. He freaks out over the seeds and unfortunately, some of the seeds in this one were almost black. I tried to explain that those seeds were ok to eat and wouldn't make a watermelon grow in his tummy.
I then told him that I ate a big seed and that's why my belly is so big - a watermelon. He laughed and said "That's not a watermelon, that's a Peanut Butter Caitlin!"
---
I started asking him some random questions again to see if his answers changed.
Favorite Color: grey and black and red. This is directly related to the Star Wars shirt he was wearing that day.
Favorite Book: The Brave book has scary bears in it.
What makes you happy: milk
What makes Daddy happy: coffee
What makes Mommy happy: coffee
(nice to see those three haven't changed)
What's your favorite movie: Star Wars. No, not Star Wars. Star Wars has Darth Vader and he is angry. He is angry because he wants his Darth Vader Mommy.
Me: ok, so what's your favorite movie? Cooper: I like Toy Story.

Race time
After Christmas, we put quite a few toys away for a rainy day. I knew we'd be spending more time at home this summer and having new things to pull out of the closet when Cooper is bored would be helpful. Since we've spent so much time lately doing things for Peanut Butter, Jason thought we should pull out Cooper's race track one evening.
To say Cooper was excited would be an understatement. He was Fired. Up. He kept screaming "Oh my gosh" and "I love it!" over and over.
This was before we even got it out of the box.
We started the set up process, only to realize it called for D size batteries...that we didn't have. Thankfully, batteries are sold at the Dollar Tree, so we were saved.
Jason & Cooper spent the evening testing every Matchbox car he owns for speed and aerodynamics. They weeded out the cars that couldn't make it around the track, which is apparently very important.
Since then, anyone who has walked through the door has been greeted with the question "Do you wanna see my new race track?" Tip: even if you say no, he'll ask again! And again.

A little weekend fun
I've been really lazy about using my camera lately. It is just so easy to grab my phone...but the photos are never as good!
A few weeks ago I made a point to carry the camera around the house. Cooper spent some time playing upstairs while Jason worked on the a/c unit in the attic.

Holding down the fort
Last month we made a trip to The Ranch to visit my family for my mom's birthday. When we got there, Cooper & Zeth started playing like boys do. They grabbed their toy guns and decided to man the fort. You know, just in case any bad guys decided to come by.
We were all very well protected!

Christmas Train Ride
When Jason told me about the steam train close to his parents house, I'm not sure who was more excited. Me about seeing Cooper's face or Cooper. We decided to ride the train the day after Thanksgiving and being the awesome parent I am, I used that train all day to get Cooper to eat lunch, nap and listen.
All afternoon Cooper talked about how he was going to ride the train. He was going to ride James. (for those of you not fully immersed in Thomas-speak, James is the red engine)
Cooper was excited. I was excited to see him see the train! Then it happened. That train pulled into the 'station' and he looked at me and said "I go ride in car."
Later that night, I asked if he wanted to ride the train and Cooper responded with a very quick "No." He was perfectly happy playing with his small, motorized train set.
You know, where he could play Godzilla.
He wasn't traumatized - the next day (and every day since) he's talked about going to ride the train. Next time we'll make sure it is daylight!

This would not be the face of an excited boy...
We managed to get on the train and he was OK, as long as I held on tight. We finally figured out that he's most likely afraid of the dark. The train took us through a trail of lights that told the story of Christmas - he would be fine when things were lit up, but when the trail was darker I'm pretty sure he managed to climb into my skin.Later that night, I asked if he wanted to ride the train and Cooper responded with a very quick "No." He was perfectly happy playing with his small, motorized train set.
