100,000 of your closest friends

Well, 105,121 to be exact. That would be the number of tickets sold for the Cowboys/Giants game Sunday night. And I was one of them. I went to my one game of the season with Jason and his friends Sunday night. It was a good game, even though Dallas didn't play well. Honestly, the team lost - but they lost it for themselves. I will say that if I'm going to a game, I'd rather sit at one where the game is literally down to the last second - and this one was! Plus, that stadium is really a spectacle. Insane. People everywhere. Way too many people everywhere.

I will say, though, that Jerry Jones did get something right. To pack 105,000 people into one building I never had to wait in line long for a drink or food. And there was never a line in the bathroom!! Can you believe it? In fact, I had to wait on Jason twice while he was in line. So, even if it was a loosing game and I was exhausted Monday from staying up past my bedtime, I was a happy pregnant woman.

The funniest thing was that after the game Jason and his friends looked like someone had killed their dog. It was so pathetic. And the worst part was that they were surround by 100,000 of their closest friends who all had dead dogs as well. It's rough being a fan.

Getting started

Last week we started working on our missing closets. When we moved in a previous owner had put built in cabinets where the closets are in the guest bedrooms. The closet doors were in the attic and since we're geniuses, we threw them away. They were looking a little rough, we didn't want doors to keep the rooms bigger and we figured getting new ones wouldn't be too hard.

Cabinets in one guestroom

WRONG. Those doors were eight freaking feet tall. Standard ones now are seven feet tall and slightly narrower than the opening. We could order custom ones...at $750 each. I need four. So we decided to frame out the closet smaller to fit prefabricated doors that run about $40 each. Yes, we'll have to sheet rock and all that fun stuff, but Jason has done that before and he thinks it won't be that difficult. We also plan to add a chair rail to both rooms before repainting them.

Getting the cabinet out in the kid's room was easier than we anticipated. We hope to have it framed and sheet rocked this weekend and clean out the other cabinet next week so that we can frame that room.

Our second child

If you've ever spent any time around me, you've heard me talk about our first child - Jett. He's actually our Godson...even though Zeth (my stepbrother) thought he was our kid for the longest time. Anyway, Jett's mom and I worked together while she was pregnant and after he was born we took over the role of the aunt & uncle who spoil your kid rotten, and then we became his honorary Godparents. I think he's fantastic - so smart, so cute, and he loves his Aunt Dee & Uncle J. Just ask him. :-)

Well, in January Jason's best friend had a little boy, Matthew David, and they asked Jason to be his Godfather. So we added a second child to our family. This was before we were pregnant and I joked that at this rate we could just skip our own kids and have everyone else's. Ok, not really, but Godchildren are great. You get to officially welcome them to your family, spoil them rotten and send them home.

This past weekend Matthew flew to Texas for his first visit! Oh, and his baptism. So we headed to northeast Texas to visit with Jason's parents, and Matt's family for the weekend. Saturday we spent time with everyone and some of the adults did their Fantasy Football draft that evening. I'm not allowed a team, but maybe one day the kid can try his luck. Sunday morning we went to church for the baptism and had lunch with the family after. Matthew was on his best behavior and didn't cry until after the ceremony when he went from fine to starving in a matter of 30 seconds. Hey, I know the feeling. The baptism gown that he wore has been in his family for almost 100 years!! The first baby was baptized in it in 1910!! How awesome is that??

On their way home Matt's parents stopped at Cavender's to buy his mom some boots...and his first cowboy hat. I've never seen a baby happier to be in a hat!!

In December we'll be having our first child. Sorry Jett & Matt - you'll get bumped to 2 & 3. But I'm sure his Godparents will spoil him as much as we have spoiled these two (and will continue to do).

The biggest TV ever

First, I'd like to prove once again that I'm an idiot and take a few minutes to brag on Jason. I agreed to bake and decorate a birthday cake for my coworkers little girl. She was having an 80's Roller Skate party - how fun! So after flying in from San Diego, I went home to bake and decorate a roller skate cake. Yes, I'm an idiot. But I do have a great husband - he saw my stress in trying to carve the cake and took it upon himself! He did a great job.

The next day we headed to DFW to see Jess, Jason & Joe and go to the Cowboy's preseason game. We spent Saturday hanging out and playing some Wii and once the sitter arrived, we headed to the stadium. I vaguely remember going to a Cowboy's game when I was younger, but I'm not sure if that really happened or I imagined it. So I'll call this my official first Cowboy's game.

And unless you've been living in a cave, you know the Cowboy's built a new stadium. A very expensive, very huge, new stadium. With a very expensive, very huge, new TV screen. Jason said it goes from one 20 yard line to the other.

I really can't tell you how excited my Jason was to go to the game. When we first started dating he mentioned wanting to own Cowboy's season tickets one day. Well, then they built this new stadium and tickets started going on sale and I had a moment of weakness and voila...we own 2 seats in that stadium. WTF was I thinking??? Oh yeah...I was thinking "it will make my husband happy." Remember how I stated above that I'm an idiot? :-) Just kidding - he'd ecstatic about the tickets and I'll enjoy a few games. Plus, it give me a good excuse to visit Jess. I was a little worried when we walked into the stadium that the players would look tiny from our seats, but I was able to follow the players and the ball from where we sit. But honestly, all I could really do was look at the TV. You really can't not look at it...

Sunny San Diego

Jason and I headed back to San Diego the morning after the Dodgers game and hoped to drive the Pacific Coast highway and maximize the fun in a convertible. Nature had other plans and it rained the whole time. Fortunately, the weather cleared up and turned out really nice by the time we got checked in to the hotel and off to the Zoo.

Our zoo in Houston is pretty good - as far as I can tell. I've only been twice, and one of those times was as a kid. How much can you really remember? But compared to the San Diego Zoo, ours is like a petting zoo! This thing was HUGE. I didn't really know what to expect, but a few friends had told me it was about 10 times the size of the Houston Zoo.

You can see how big my belly is getting!

We saw a huge array of animals - polar bears, lions, tigers, and elephants were our favorites. I made Jason do the reptile house alone and told him he couldn't take photos just in case I accidentally came across them on the camera. He said he did see a huge Anaconda - surprisingly, those don't scare me too much since they're so big they just don't seem real. It's like the basilisk in Harry Potter...it's just not real.

The SD Zoo just had a really cool Elephant Odyssey exhibit open up recently. They have quite a few elephants and we got to see them wash the feet of two of them. They are so cute - the handler would use a whistle and tell the elephant to put her foot on the fence and she'd scrub away before asking for the next foot. For animals so big, they listen really well! But you can see how big the bars on the cage are. I guess if they tried to get out, you'd want them behind bars that big...

The next day we did the last part of vacationing by going to a Padres baseball game. Luckily the hotel was across the street from the stadium so we could walk. The weather was a little tricky though - it was breezy and felt really cool in the shade, however our tickets were directly facing the sun! I put on some sunblock, but after having a nasty sunburn in June I decided not to test my luck for too long. Plus, we wanted to spend some time looking around the park.

Their stadium is probably one of the nicest ones I've ever been to! It was so clean and they had a lot of fun stuff for families. Behind outfield is a huge lawn area where you can sit and still see the field. They also play the game on a big screen. AND they have a small wiffle ball field for the kids to play in. Perfect entertainment.

We both really enjoyed San Diego. Because I tired out quickly and my feet were swelling we stayed in the Gaslamp District. Really, you don't need to leave - great food, entertainment, shopping...it's all right there.

Oh, and I did manage to get a cupcake before I left. It wasn't Sprinkles, but it was from a place called Heavenly Cupcakes. I'd have to agree.

Where to begin?

A lot has gone on since my last post. I had every intention of updating my blog while I was in California, but as you can tell that did not happen. So, I'll start with our trip to LA. This was my 4th trip to the famous city and I finally did the "tourist" stuff. Minus an earthquake - thank goodness.

We flew into San Diego Friday morning and picked up our rental car (Jason enjoyed driving the 2010 Mustang Convertible for 24 hours) and headed north. Since we made good time, we stopped at the hotel to drop off our bags and drove over to Hollywood. After a little walking up and down Hollywood Boulevard to see the stars and footprints, we drove over to Rodeo Drive.

We were on a bit of a time crunch but I wanted a cupcake from Sprinkles. However, I apparently didn't want one bad enough because I wasn't 100% sure where it was located - but *411 was able to help me out with that. Then we drove past the store to see a really long line down the sidewalk. Seriously - it's a freaking cupcake!?!?!? I'm not much on waiting in lines, even if we're talking about cupcakes, so I passed up the opportunity and we headed to the hotel to rest and change.

The purpose of our trip was to go to Dodger Stadium. We cheaped out a bit and bought tickets in the bleachers - right behind Manny Ramirez. Because we were unsure of LA traffic, especially on game day, we got there early and watched batting practice for the Cubs. And since we were sitting in Mannywood (I think that's what they call it) there was a lot to see. Apparently it's a big deal to dress up like Manny - complete with the hair and all. One guy looked so much like him a kid came up and asked for his autograph. Kind of cute, but I felt bad for the kid.

The stadium is definitely old...but neat all the same. It sits up on top of a hill and people in LA love their Dodgers!
