Right...or wrong?

A few weeks ago the daycare told us that they were taking the pacifier away from Cooper.  Apparently he can't have it in the next room and they said he was throwing it out of his crib so it indicated he was ok to start weaning from the paci.  I was a little apprehensive...I mean, you try sitting in the car with him for 4+ hours without a paci.  It's not fun.

I agreed though.  I mean, better to start weaning now than go cold turkey in December.  But I did tell them that I would keep it for the car trips and I was going to hang on to it for bedtime.  He's not been the type to have to have a pacifier.  He likes it...only until he sees something better.  If he finds one he'll put it in his mouth, but he won't hesitate to spit it out for something that looks better to chew on.  I just think he likes chewing on things in general.

At this point I've been tossing his Monkey into the crib at night.  I usually don't put him down with a paci, but I leave it in there...just in case.  Last night I realized that he's just not quite ready to let it go.  I woke up about 3am with a full bladder.  As soon as I crawled back in bed...Cooper started crying.  Flipping, flopping, tossing, turning.  I checked the monitor and decided to watch him before getting up.  ((that thing is awesome, by the way))  He finally got up and started to crawl around the crib.  He got about halfway and stopped to sit up.  Suddenly he snatched at something against the side of the crib.  He took a look at his lovee in one hand and the Monkey in the other.  I could just see the contemplation on his face.  He threw the lovee down, plugged in the paci and flopped forward.  It's like watching someone go down in a boxing match.  He was still for a minute, pulled the Monkey out and looked it over, plugged it back in and that was it.

So, right or wrong I'm keeping the Monkey for now.  I don't know if he would have gone back to sleep without the paci, but it was nice to know that he can find it on his own and put himself back to sleep.

Joy Day 15

Supporting a friend at the Light the Night Walk.

45 Weeks Old

Cooper is working on getting over his ear infection, slowly but surely.  We had quite the "poopy" weekend last weekend AND this weekend.  He went through two outfits last Saturday and another two yesterday.

One day, when he's older, I'm going to make him read this so he can see how much his Aunt Sassy loves him.  Since Friday was our anniversary, Lin picked up Cooper from daycare to keep him for a 'spend the night party.'  Saturday morning he started crying about 5:30 and she went to pick him up.  When she told me that poop was up to his neck I laughed so hard I couldn't hear the rest of what she had to say.  Somewhere in there she gave him a bath.  Then she told my mom that she doesn't mind picking up Cooper at 5:30am to console him, but when she goes to rub his back and it squishes...she minds.  I can't blame her.

Jason bought me a Groupon for a photography class so that I can learn some basics of using a DSLR camera and while I did that Saturday Jason dealt with another blowout and bath.  Today has been better, so I'm hoping it was just the antibiotic again.

I also feel like he's getting smarter and smarter by the day.  He claps on command and will clap and pat his belly when we sing Patty Cake.  If I tell him to grab his ball he crawls to the nearest baseball and grabs it.  Also, he loves to shake his head no.  70% of the time he knows what he means - especially if he doesn't want to do something or he's full.  But it is really fun if I ask him a question and he shakes his head no.  Earlier this week Jason asked me if I had done something.  I said that I hadn't had time and then asked Cooper "Did momma have time this week to do that?"  He said no...he knows where his bread is buttered!

44 Weeks Old

Cooper is sick.  :-(  Wednesday he was doing well, but we spent our evening snapping some Halloween photos (be on the lookout for those) and skipped this weekly pic.

Thursday morning when Jason got him up, he noticed Cooper had been hoarding food.  Ok, maybe not.  He'd tossed his cookies (or dinner) overnight.  We're awesome and didn't hear it, but lately he's been coughing up quite a bit of mucus (gross, I know) and it comes out like a burp.  I gave him a Wal-Mart bath before school and sent him on his way.  Then I got a call from daycare that he'd done the same thing after lunch.  So off we went to the pedi to check him out.

Proud parent moment of the day: when the pedi takes a look in the ear and replies "oh, its bad."  Fortunately it was only one ear, so we were given an antibiotic to clear it up.

Today, though, I got the first call around 9am that he'd ran through the first outfit of the day.  By 3pm, he'd messed up the 2 extra pieces I sent and I picked up the little vagabond in a plain white onesie.  I had to giggle a bit when we stopped a Kroger with my WT kid in the plain white onesie and no pants.  I just prayed that I wouldn't channel my friend Harmony and her trip to the Memorial City Target.  I shop at that Kroger weekly...I can't get banned.

We made it out safe and sound and Cooper has been clean all afternoon.  He's just not eating well and not drinking much.  We're trying Pedialyte and the BRAT diet and hoping things clear up quickly. On another note, I'm not sure why apples are included int he BRAT diet.  That one confuses me...

Despite not feeling well, he sure was cute Thursday night.  And seems to be warming up to his pony a bit.

He looks really happy here...

Joy Day 6

Planning a vacation about drinking wine...while drinking wine.

10 Months Old!

10 down...2 to go.  I've got a pretty good feeling these next 2 months will fly by.  Jason and I go on vacation in a few weeks, Halloween is right around the corner.  November is booked up with things we want to finish before Cooper's party, then a few weeks of visiting with friends and family around Thanksgiving and...voila.  1 year.

We're up to 3 teeth now!  The one lone top tooth isn't quite visible, but I can feel it.  And sometimes I think I can feel the 4th one, but I'm not sure.  I'm just glad we're past some of the whining.  We've got a good "ma-ma-ma" and some days we get a "da-da-da."  Coop has started working on his movie career.  He's aiming to be the next Chewbacca.  Although I don't think anyone could remake Star Wars as well as the first three (well, 4, 5 & 6) were made.  But if someone does, I've got a Chewie.  We have got to get it on film because I really think it's kind of like Phoebe on Friends and her "sexy phlegm."  I'm worried when his cold goes away we'll loose our Chewie.

I feel like we're so close to walking, also.  And I'm still so not ready.  He cruises around everything, will sometimes push his toy across the room, and will occasionally let go and stand for a few seconds.  But no steps of his own.

As for food...the kid loves his food.  We finally hit the point where he's starting to drink less formula and eating more solid food.  The hard part is that it can be a little hit and miss.  One day he'll only eat his pork and we've got to force the veggies...and the next day he'll eat squash and spit out the chicken.  I'm just glad we can finally give him what we're having for dinner!

Bear & Bridget were in last weekend so that we could drink some wine visit.  We took Cooper outside for a few photos before heading out to watch some football.  They had a lot of fun with Cooper and of course he loves his idol - Bear.
